George Emont is managing partner of the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund and a partner with Triathlon Medical Ventures.Mr. Emont's two decades of health care industry experience include 12 in venture capital. Prior to joining Triathlon and KCSF, Mr. Emont was the Director of Venture Capital for Humana Inc. where he managed a venture capital fund that made investments totaling approximately $75 million in 11 portfolio companies and three venture funds. Mr. Emont's resume includes service with Baxter Healthcare Corporation and IAI Venture Capital Group, followed by the successful launch and eventual sale of oncology-focused biotechnology start-up OncoTherapeutics. Mr. Emont currently is on the boards of ApoImmune, a company that specializes in the therapeutic delivery of proteins; RhinoCyte, Inc., a biotechnology company that has developed a method of isolating therapeutic adult stem cells located in the olfactory regions of the mucosal lining of the human nasal passageway; and Elderserve, a non-profit agency that provides services to over 8000 senior citizens in Louisville, Kentucky the surrounding area. He also represents Triathlon on the board of Celleration. Mr. Emont is from Granville, Ohio, holds a B.A. from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
Steve Gailar is President and Chief Executive Officer of MetaCyte Business Lab LLC and managing partner of Kentucky Seed Capital Fund.Mr. Gailar has spent the last 30 years as a manager of, and investor in, various life sciences businesses. During fourteen years at Eli Lilly and Company he held various management positions in finance, sales and marketing, as well as establishing the initial Pharmaceutical Strategic Planning component for the company which determined future competencies, investments and acquisitions. Mr. Gailar spent three years in the San Francisco Bay Area in senior management positions of emerging biotechnology companies including his role as President and CEO of Marlstone Corporation, a rational drug design firm. For thirteen years Steve was a Managing Director of Senmed Medical Ventures, a private evergreen venture capital firm making investments in university spin-outs and mid-to-late stage private life science companies. He has been Founder/CEO of seven biomedical startups and has raised more than $50 million in venture capital financing. The public market capitalization of his investments exceeds $1 billion. Mr. Gailar holds a B.A. from Indiana University and an M.S.I.A. from Purdue University's Krannert School of Business.
Andrew Mercke is an administrative assistant to the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund and a research assistant at Capital Innovations, Inc.Mr. Mercke began his career in private equity with Capital Innovations, Inc. where he conducts market research and analysis. Upon graduation from the University of Louisville, Mr. Mercke was hired by KSCF to handle the day-to-day administrative operations of the fund. Prior to joining Capital Innovations and KSCF, Mr. Mercke was a paralegal assistant and court liaison for the Louisville law firm Naber Joyner & Jaffe, PLLC. Mr. Mercke holds a B.S. in Economics with a Finance Minor from the University of Louisville. |
